Ecotherapy
My practice at Brooklands, South Godstone, allows for work in nature where appropriate. Working outdoors, ‘in nature’, can be a useful and welcome opportunity, freeing us up from the external artificial stimuli which can so often overwhelm us, or compete with our inner needs.
Incorporating this into my work with clients where required is done with consideration and discussion around the extended boundaries and parameters and focus. Taking the work outside offers a change to the normal intimate dynamic, but is held in the same framework – it is still client-lead and puts the client’s needs first.
Research around this and the therapeutic advantages can be most easily understood by Martin Jordan’s ‘Nature and Therapy’ (2015).
“In every adult there lurks a child – an eternal child, something that is always becoming, is never completed, and calls for unceasing care, attention, and education. That is the part of human personality which wants to develop and become whole.”
